Please choose a browser other than Opera if you're using the navigation bar. Please read this introduction page to familiarize yourself with the site's nature and goals. The navigation menu is intended for a quick search and to give you a flavor of this site's content. It does not display all the articles hosted by childrenpedia, therefore also make sure to use the search engine. Childrenpedia will in the near future be featuring another pretty cool and efficient internal navigation tool, so stay tuned. By the way, is childrenpedia's main page cute enough to be your browser's new home page?...

Who am I?

The main goal of this site is to explore and expose all aspects of a child's life, the definition of the latter being a young human being, boy or girl, between birth and puberty. I have come to realize that it takes more than love and care to offer a child a good upbringing. It also takes research, reflection and hard work! Admittedly though, it has never been my intention to spend hours reading books on children-related subjects. So I tried a different method to educate myself; namely, by learning more about a certain topic(s) related to a particular scenario that I would find myself in. Since I never had the time to become an expert, such approach enabled me to gradually obtain an overall understanding and become a much better educator. I understand that such method may appear to be less didactic to some of you, but the fact is that it has been working well for me. Throughout the years I have been gathering an awesome collection of articles and essays of all sizes covering a wide range of topics, and I thought it was about time to share my positive experience with parents, professionals and all those who share the same interest and passion.

Childrenpedia's primary mission is to provide high quality information to its users. I came up with the idea to pull together and organize information on one web site in order to spare readers from going from one site to another in their search, which is oftentimes the case unfortunately. Childrenpedia comprises both a library of selected texts organized under different article directories, and other resources. Unlike so many web sites out there, I have strived to create a clean and uncluttered design with the intention to improve its readability and the reader's overall experience. After a long time playing with the idea of getting this project started, I finally found the time needed to initiate it with the hope that the "final" product would reach out to as many people as possible. To those looking to educate themselves and to those willing to work together with me with a view to enhancing both the content and quality of this site in a community where each participant is able to share their thoughts, experiences, suggestions and writings. Participation is the keyword. Remember, this is OUR web site! Having that in mind, I created the community link at the upper right-hand corner of every page where all communicaton links have been grouped together. Please take a brief moment to check it out. All my efforts in completing the initial stage of this project were made bearing one basic idea in mind: to create a rather informal but strongly cultural environment in order to celebrate our infants and children and thereby offer a modest contribution towards a better world. However, a goal of such proportions demands work of a more communal nature. Therefore, your participation in this ever-evolving and -growing project is crucial to strengthen our community and help it carry out its mission. This site was written for people of all ages, races and creeds, genders and walks of life. In other words, for construction workers, parents, priests and nuns, would-be mothers and fathers, educators, executives, catholics, buddhists, muslims, prisoners, housewives, and to everyone else who are in tune with this site's nature and goals. However, keep in mind that even though this site is about children, most of its content targets older readers.

typewriter For the article writers...

Besides inquisitive readers, I am also looking for skillful, knowledgeable and inspired writers and people with good writing skills who share a passion for kids and are willing to use some of their free time and expertize to help promote the cause of this new online meeting place.

If you possess content unpublished on the web or if you think you can produce original text(s) that can enlarge our library and add to its quality, please send me your article(s) with unique and interesting information. I am really looking forward to seeing that happen! It is important however that you take a moment to read the editing guidelines and terms of service!

This is my first accomplished project online and it was a wondrous experience putting it together despite the many contretemps of my daily life that delayed its completion. Despite my efforts, it is not a perfect one. After spending almost two years working on it, on the day I finally made it public on the web I celebrated the special occasion by opening a bottle of red wine! ( from California ). But this project will never be fisnished as I will on a daily basis be working on enhancing its content and quality, amongst other things. Whether my work lives up to my aspirations, I will leave that up to you to judge. Perhaps I am a dreamer, but I know that achieving a goal, regardless of its nature and challenges, starts by taking the first step and joining forces with others. I dream of an active and passionate community working together to further its members' common cause: a better world based upon a better understanding about our children, our future adult mankind.

clarifications Some clarifications and tips on using this site.
  • In order for the reader to get an idea of the types of articles that this site contains, they have been grouped under different article directories as shown on the navigation menu. Beware though that these directories DO NOT list all the articles hosted by childrenpedia. If you have not found what you are looking for by using the navigation menu, make sure to use the Google search engine located at the top left corner of every page by entering keywords related to the nature of your topic. Since this site is all about kids, there is no need to enter words such as kids, child, infant, etc.
  • If you still cannot find the information you are looking for, check back with us in the near future as childrenpedia's content is enhanced on a daily basis.
  • If you want to find a word on a web page, press down the key combination "Ctrl + f" and type in your word(s).
  • Be aware that web sites may not be displayed or function correctly if you are using an old browser version, specially if you're using MS Internet Explorer. I highly recommend that you keep your browser's version updated. And Make sure it is Javascript enabled at all times! Most web sites nowadays require that same feature active. Your browser is javascript enabled if it shows the green-and-yellow text effect on the upper right hand corner of every page.
  • The old war of the browsers... Be aware that different browsers may display web pages slightly differently. Of all the major browsers this site was tested on, Firefox was the one that rendered the best display.
  • Despite the almost countless and popular book titles out there, childrenpedia's bookstore has been created with thorough and concise lists of some of the mostly read and highly rated publications. The selection of the titles was made having in mind a broad audience comprised of children, adults with an average education level, and scholars and professionals in child-related fields.
  • If you are looking to shop online for your child, why spend so much time surfing the web looking for the right web sites? Childrenpedia has researched and come up with a list of some of the best web sites as far as customer service, product quality and affordable prices. Check the links located either to the left or to the right of any article or directory page.
  • The "Email Webmaster" link on the contact window has been provided as a quick way to contact me, and as a tool for article writers as well( character counting... ).
  • Stay tuned to what is happening to childrenpedia.net and to children around the globe. Read our best and most recent articles by signing up to childrenpedia's newsletter! Click on the "Community" link located at the top left hand corner and on the pop-up menu click on Sign up for newsletter.
  • Interaction is a primary fascination of the Web. People are not on the internet just looking for information - they want to interact with others! Weblogs ( blogs ) are intended to be a place where a community can gather, support one another in times of difficulty, and learn skills and effective living methods from one another. Share your thoughts and experiences with others on one or more of the blogs related to the nature of your subject. Please make sure to read childrenpedia's policy blog and blogger.com's
